Risks in the U.S. - DRC minerals deal
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) holds vast reserves of critical minerals, making it a key player in global resource development. However, a proposed minerals deal between the U.S. and DRC faces serious risks due to political instability, armed conflict, and weak governance, especially in the eastern provinces. The article warns that such a deal could worsen regional tensions, empower non-state armed groups, and damage U.S. credibility. Without strong governance reforms and conflict resolution measures, the agreement may undermine long-term stability in the DRC and its neighbouring regions
