NRGI questions reliability of CMSI’s final consultation draft
The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) acknowledges that the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative (CMSI) final consultation draft shows improvements compared to the 2024 version, but warns that major weaknesses remain. NRGI highlights that CMSI’s governance model is not genuinely multi-stakeholder and allows national industry groups to influence standards through “National Panels.” It also raises concerns about unclear and non-transparent assurance requirements, including the lack of detailed public audit findings. According to NRGI, these gaps undermine CMSI’s credibility and limit its ability to serve as a trusted global standard for responsible mining.
