ILO and Responsible Minerals Initiative strengthen efforts against child labour

The International Labour Organization’s Child Labour Platform (ILO CLP) and the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) have formed a strategic partnership to help eliminate child labour in mineral supply chains by combining their expertise, networks, and influence. The collaboration focuses particularly on artisanal and small-scale mining, where child labour risks remain high and where effective action requires coordination among governments, international organizations, businesses, and local communities. Through the partnership, the organizations aim to strengthen corporate due diligence, prevention efforts, and remediation programs while addressing underlying causes such as poverty, lack of education, and weak social protection systems. The initiative also reflects growing global attention to responsible sourcing of critical minerals and seeks to help companies translate their human rights commitments into measurable improvements for children and mining communities.
