G7 Leaders Commit to Securing and Di­ver­si­fy­ing Critical Mineral Supply Chains

At the 2026 G7 Summit in Évian, leaders issued a declaration recognising the strategic role of critical mineral value chains and the need to reduce vulnerabilities arising from high market concentration and trade restrictions. The declaration sets out commitments across several areas, including industrial cooperation to expand processing and recycling capacity, mobilisation of public and private financing, and measures to structure markets through mechanisms such as standards-based approaches and revenue stabilisation. It also addresses transparency and traceability, beginning with pilot schemes for lithium and nickel, alongside commitments on stockpiling, exchange of information on best practices, and increasing recycling rates for selected critical minerals. To coordinate these efforts, the leaders established a non-binding Critical Minerals Resilience and Production Alliance, supported by a cooperation platform drawing on the OECD and the International Energy Agency.
