EU launches REsourceEU plan to strengthen economic security and secure raw materials
The European Commission announced a new strategic package to strengthen the EU’s economic security and reduce dependency on external suppliers of critical raw materials. The core element, the REsourceEU action plan, builds on the Critical Raw Materials Act and focuses on diversifying imports, increasing recycling, creating strategic stockpiles, and accelerating raw-material projects. The initiative will mobilize 3 billion euros in funding over the next 12 months. The EU aims to reduce its raw-material dependencies by up to 50 percent by 2029.
