EU considers scaling back green deal and due diligence rules in drive for competitiveness
The European Commission is proposing an Omnibus legislative review that could weaken key elements of the Green Deal, including the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). This move is presented as a way to reduce regulatory burdens and improve competitiveness but raises concerns about legal uncertainty and the rollback of sustainability progress. Finance Watch warns that such a shift could undermine the EU's leadership on environmental and human rights standards.
