After Assad’s fall in December 2024, Syria is now led by HTS, prompting global concern over its extremist ties. HTS pledges inclusive governance, leading to calls for lifting sanctions and delisting from terrorist lists. The US and EU have begun easing some restrictions to support Syria’s recovery.
