Meet the Experts:

🔹Michael Ristaniemi is a Legal and Policy Officer at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and SMEs (DG GROW). His work focuses on corporate sustainability, responsibility, and the social economy. Before joining the European Commission, he worked as a lawyer and sustainability director in the private sector.

🔹Julie Schindall is the Director of Responsible Sourcing and Responsible Investment at Levin Sources. She is a seasoned human rights professional with extensive experience in policy, strategy, and stakeholder engagement. Her expertise spans human rights and responsible business standards, as well as human rights due diligence in global value chains.

🔹Ben Katz leads the work on responsible mineral supply chains at the OECD’s Centre for Responsible Business Conduct. Established to promote the implementation of the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas, the programme aims to advance the field primarily through policy advice, research and convening, and support the smooth roll-out of regulatory requirements and market expectations for minerals due diligence.

🔹Lisa Fleckenstein is a Project Coordinator for Sustainable Supply Chains, Human Rights and Raw Materials within the procurement department at Mercedes-Benz AG. Her work focuses on responsible sourcing of battery raw materials, especially cobalt and nickel. Before joining Mercedes-Benz AG, Lisa worked with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), advising the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development on responsible raw material extraction.
